Babydoll sheep are absolutely wonderful. Luckily, when they are bred to another breed of sheep, the offspring get the best of both parents.
The cross-bred Babydoll has a smaller stature, a smiley face, a wonderfully relaxed temperament, a finer fleece with a longer staple, and an endearing personality. Even the names of the cross-breeds evoke an impish vision: Babyrom, Babyland, Babester, Babyjake... (I just invented the last two names). These are Babydolls crossed with Romneys, Shetlands, Border Leicesters, and Jacobs, respectively.
This spring I have been very fortunate to have the fantastic results of a small experiment. I wanted to create some Babydoll cross-bred sheep. This trial became bigger than my original plan; the ram, it seems, thought it should be an experiment of flock-sized proportions. The father of all the lambs this year is a registered Babydoll ram named Tennyson.
Some of these lambs will be available for sale. Each lamb will be sold for $250. Please stay tuned for photos of a sampling of these wonderful lambs.
